The BOX

This weekend was a bit weird due to national holidays, so it turned so, that I spent only one day in the garage. Building the BOX :).

Uninstalling windows was only half of the job - next step was to store them safely in the basement. But how? 11 meters of straight pine plank were purchased, and yet another sacrifice for engineering hunger was build (yes, all 11 meters went there):And gues what? Made a flaw in design, so the glass refused to fit.
That was some kind of stress with suction tool made last weekend, because it was too weak to hold whole weight of the windshield... After several tries, and a lot of sweat (+3C in garage BTW), all the glasses were safely put to basement. But at the price. Now I feel pain every muscle in my body. Need to ask someone to help next time...

Uninstalling windows

Main task this weekend was to remove all windows (requirement for adding roll-cage). Because I'm with expierence of cracking windshield (2 ones in the past) - support for the winshield needed to be designed. After some of material searching in local hardware shop I came up with this:It proved to be bad design, because due to funky windshield profile - suction cups were unable to grip correctly. After some head scratching and searching local hardware shop - some weird design was created. It looks strange - but works just fine. I have managed to lift windshield without cracking it (later). So, asked some friend to help, and started to pull windows out. Side windows first, back window at last. After few hours pulling rope, and soaking everything with WD40 - we were done :). Tired, but all windows intact (some scratches on sealing rubber, but minor ones):Rare ocasion to look at the car from the inside and outside same time:After taking last side window, it became obvious, that few bubles of rust - like always were only top of the iceberg. Pictures are not very clear, but tell the story:
No penetrating rust, so after cleaning paint and putty - things looked like not so bad, not so good - will need few weekends to sort this out, but in summer, when it's warm and dry enough to work with paint:
And the winshield was pulled out with single screwdriver (came suprisingly easy), because it was replaced in summer, so the sealing grease was still greasing the rubber, and no 20 year old dust and glue in between glass and body.

Cold winter morning

Actually not so cold, but windy, so it was too chilly to work outside. You can see by unsatisfied look of the car (who on the earth would like to change warm garage to cold morning?)
Managed to take few pictures from the inside. Major changes - no sound insulation on the transmission tunnel:

Rust goes on recon :)

Basically stripping has finished today. Now what's left - is windows. After that - no way back...

Destruction continues... more pictures

Continued with destruction inside and outside the car. Here are results:

Also found some mysterious valve on the fuel tank. It is interesting, that it is riveted, not fixed with bolts. Strange.

Destruction started...

Today, dismounting of all carpets, seats and stuff was oficially started. Preparations for roll cage welding will take some time, and pictures ;). Chaos in the rear of the car (through passengers door)

Some off site development :)

Reviewing my performance on the track, I have found, that I can get use from shift light. So I developed some digital one:

Development:

Testing:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7589142863918180962&hl=en

Prototype is a bit raw, but does the work. I am planning to make it 4 or 5 led bar, like on WRC Groholm's peugeot.

Some news, some pictures :)

If you are watching this space - you may have noticed, that there are no updates for last few month's. Actually I'm still busy with my human carrier, work, personal life, etc. However there's some progress. I just was too lazy to write those small things here ;).

First, at the end of September, while it was dry and shiny (and the last day for the "summer" insurance), went for a spin, with G-Meter attached. Clutch slipped badly, but after few runs, I've managed to get this 0-60 time:Not bad for my heavy underpowered coupe with destroyed clutch...

Maybe the shiny logo was the reason? Here is the satisfied smile after a run (oil on pavement is not from it ;))
Note that the blue samco in a picture was replaced by exactly the same looking, but different shape and measurements one. Now it sits more in a place, and I don't need piece of black hose any more. That was last blown hose at the track. Hope it will be the last ever ;).

And of course old/new flywheel and clutch (not in a picture, it just standard remanufactured SACHS disk, and LUK pressure plate). Happy revving awaits :)~
Thing looks little dirty, but it is in good condition. Decided no to go ebay 6 puck way, because got light flywheel and remanufactured SACHS dirty cheap. Let's hope it will hold my harsh clutch engagement.
